Being deprived of sleep can cause you to gain weight? Yes! Many people do not realize the health effects of sleep deprivation are many. It might hinder your fat loss efforts.

When you are tired, it’s so hard to make healthy choices. I’m not sure if it’s psychology or physiology or’m not much of a combination of both.

However, I know I have experienced it firsthand.

When I get a good night’s sleep, my regular exercise routine and sticking to healthy eating is a cinch. But when I’m sleep deprived, I somehow think that chocolate and sugar will make me feel better. The truth is, sometimes not! It really makes me feel bad. Too bad, because blood sugar highs and lows, and I’m tired and cranky before I ate dessert.

Still some science. Several different studies, researchers have found a link between sleep and the hormones that influence our eating behavior.

There are two specific hormones. Ghrelin is responsible for feelings of hunger. Leptin tells the brain when it’s time to stop. When you’re sleep deprived, your ghrelin levels increase at the same time reduce your levels of leptin. Results in an increased craving for food and spirit (a hormone disaster filled stay on track with a healthy eating plan) as is. Nothing is worse than craving food and being hungry at the same time.
